Planning your NSW Wedding Ceremony during Covid 19

 So your having a wedding in 2020/2021 and not sure on the rules for NSW.

I have taken this information from the healthdirect.gov.au website

UPDATE 23/09/2021

From Monday 20 September 2021, if you live in Greater Sydney, including in an area of concern, you can attend a wedding service in Greater Sydney if you are one of the 11 people attending the wedding service.

Number of people
A maximum of 11 people can attend a wedding service in Greater Sydney. The 11 people are:

  • a person legally required to conduct the wedding service being the celebrant or officiant 
  • the 2 people getting married 
  • the 2 necessary witnesses  
  • a person recording the service or  
  • up to 5 guests.  

You can leave home to attend a wedding if you are one of these 11 people. 
 
Wedding services held outside Greater Sydney
If you live in Greater Sydney, including a local government area of concern, you can only leave home to attend a wedding outside Greater Sydney if you are a parent, child, or sibling of one of the persons getting married. 

Greater Sydney includes the Blue Mountains and Wollongong local government areas.

If you live outside Greater Sydney, you can leave home and enter Greater Sydney (including a local government area of concern) to attend a wedding service only if you are:  

  • one of the people who is legally required to conduct the wedding service being the celebrant or officiant  
  • one of the 2 people getting married 
  • one of the 2 necessary witnesses  
  • the person recording the service; or  
  • a parent, child or sibling of one of the people getting married.  

From Monday 20 September 2021, if you live in Greater Sydney, including in an area of concern, you can attend a wedding service in Greater Sydney if you are one of the 11 people attending the wedding service.  

No more than 11 people can attend a wedding in Greater Sydney. 

UPDATE 29/06/2021

Weddings are not permitted in Greater Sydney, including Wollongong, Shellharbour, Central Coast and Blue Mountains from 11.59pm, Sunday 27 June and 11:59pm Friday 9 July

In all other parts of NSW weddings can go ahead, however the one person per four square metre rule applies to all indoor and outdoor weddings

 

UPDATE 26/03/2021

From 12.01am Monday 29th March the following will apply

  • No caps on Weddings
  • No restrictions on singing including in places of worship
  • No restriction on dancing at weddings including pubs and nightclubs
  • No cap on visitors in the home (if there are more than 100 people there must be a Covid safety plan)
  • All venues to move to the one person per 2sqm rule
  • 200 people allowed for personal outdoor public gatherings

UPDATE: 20/01/2021

The number of people at a wedding or a gathering following a wedding service is subject to the one person per 2 square metre rule.

You must complete and register a COVID 19 safety plan for your event.

People attending will be required to provide their name and contact details so that they can be used for contact tracing.

Only the wedding party, to a maximum of 20 persons, is permitted on a dancefloor. There cannot be rotation of people on the dancefloor beyond this wedding party.

UPDATE: 7/12/2020

More than 25 people can attend a wedding or reception if there’s no more than 1 person per 2 square metres

Up to 50 People can dance indoors at any one time. Up to 500 people can dance outdoors.

Up to 150 people can attend a wedding or gathering following a wedding service. This is subject to the 4-square metre rule and registration as a COVID-Safe business. This restriction applies to weddings held outdoors, in places of worship and on residential properties.

A maximum of 20 people – from the official wedding party only – can be on the dance floor at any one time.

From Tuesday 1st December 2020, up to 300 people can attend a wedding – subject to public health advice. There can only be 1 person per 4 square metres inside the venue and 1 person per 2 square metres outside.

Everyone must provide their name and contact details in case they’re needed for contact tracing purposes.

Rules keep changing so I will update the blog on a regular basis.
